Memories & Wishes
Marshé Hutchinson | Atlanta, Georgia
Aunty Valrica was a sweet and loving woman. She was stylish and charming. She left an impression in our minds and hearts. And above all... She lived. She loved. She sparkled.
Kim Williams | Oakland, California
Aunty Valrica never missed a call for a birthday, a Valentine’s Day, a Christmas or any day of importance. Whatever she had she was always willing to share. She was always vibrant, radiant and beautiful on the inside and out. She loved deeply. She never hesitated to let us know how much she loved us and how she was proud of us. She was the sweetest person I’ve ever known.
Veonia Hutchinson-Lawes | Spanish Town, Jamaica
My memories of Aunty Valerie always brings a smile to my face because that's the first thing she would greet you with. Her beautiful smile was always followed by a sincere “How are you were doing?” Chris, Marshé, Kim and I spent our Summers with her and have fond memories. She was always stylish in her dressing. My heart goes out to everyone especially Juval, its not easy. May her soul R.I.P.
Dr. Joseph Hutchinson | Randallstown, Maryland
So thankful to God for the gift of an amazing sister. Valrica is awesome. We had childhood joys and adventures in Costa Rica, Panama, Spanish Town, McCooks, St Jago High, and West Indies College. We won scholarship together and graduated from college together.
Eclectic, creative, deep, principled, loving and scholarly. So much joyous memories. I am thankful that she knew the difference between the voice of man and God. By the power and promises of God we will reunite in the Immortal with Christ and all the countless saved.
We played, prayed, communicated, studied, sprinted, laughed , and surprised each other. Eternal Love . God loves Valrica more than we do. John 3: 16-17

To the Family of Valrica Hutchinson—We are saddened by the passing of Valrica, and our prayers are with all at this time of grief and sadness. We look forward to meeting her when Christ returns. Valrica was always neatly clad and attractive, and it was hard for anyone to miss her in the midst of a crowd or group. She was very friendly, approachable and quiet. She will be greatly missed.

I share in the sadness of Valrica's passing, as I know how it feels to lose a sister. Although it has been many years since I last saw her, I do remember her to be one of a kind. She was friendly, charming, always exquisitely dressed with every strand of hair in place. Although quiet, her presence was felt and it was fun to be in her company. We take comfort in the blessed hope.

Dearest Juval, siblings and all the families,
Val joined me on my first missionary service and what a team we were!! So much laughter, fun, talking with the students and natives. She had so much power in her voice as she declared in strong tones that she had 5 big brothers who will be her in five minutes for her so never come close by us!! She was full of energy, kindness, love, sharing and caring on the streets, in the ocean, in our trying to prepare a meal, our favorite sport ...running to the airport just to watch people disembark, volunteering to point them to their destinations.
Yes, greatly missed your ever so flamboyant, sweet and darling mom! I am having such a difficult time writing as floods of precious memories crowding my mind! She played the sweetest mom to me in my vulnerable times! Will always remain in my memories!
Sending you all my deepest, heartfelt sympathy with my love for all the families! Thanks for sharing your mom, your extremely sweet sister with us. I pray and hope that on that great resurrection day when the trumpet is blown we all with our precious, darling friend will be holding hands as we go through the ‘alley’ to see our Awesome Jesus who had made all love, happiness reunions possible❤️God bless you Juval as I join you in keeping Val’s sweet, loving memories in our hearts 🌹 - Lovingly Clytie

If you grew up in the Spanish Town Seventh-day Adventist Church the '60s, you just had to know the Hutchinsons — the entire clan. I went to school with two of them —Joseph and Valrie at St Jago High and West Indies College.
I later taught three of them — Juana, Clifford and Charles at Willowdene High School. But, as I said, you knew the entire clan for I also knew Merton who went to Kingsway and David who went to Dinthill.
I remember two things about Valrie. She loved French from St Jago. I remember lending her my "Essential French Vocabulary' by Whitmarsh — something I wouldn't readily part with. (She dutifully returned it).
Then, I remember at West Indies College, Oswald Rugless, Jr declaring in the early '70s that Valrie Hutchinson was the girl with the best shape on campus. (I was naïve to all this).
But, seriously, she was fun to be around. Never a dull moment.
May we cherish the memories and look forward to seeing her in the hereafter.

I know Valrica, her parents and siblings from the early 60s when I lived in Spanish Town and attended the Spanish Town SDA Church. The Hutchinson family was a prominent and well respected family in Adventism. They believed in Education and service to humanity. This was evident in Valrica, because in 1972 after graduating from West Indies College (now Northern Caribbean University), she accepted a call from the West Indies Uniion to teach in Grand Cayman. She along with Clytie (now my wife) and Perla Gregory served as dedicated missionary teachers on the staff of Edmer Academy. I had the privilege of serving as their missionary principal.
Valrica was a kind-hearted, loving, happy person. She was a team player and faithful worker who made a positive difference in the lives of her students and their families. She loves a good time and we had fun together on the beach with our students or as a missionary team of four. Valrica is my friend and I will miss her. May her soul rest with Jesus until the first resurrection. And may God sustain her son and comfort each member of the Hutchinson family.
Fay Hutchinson | Randallstown, Maryland
Valrica was and will always be a very special part of our family. Stylish, classy and so giving yet wanting nothing back.
She called every Sunday without fail, between 3 and 3:30pm until she could no longer make those calls.
Her birthday cards arrived weeks in advance. No holiday however insignificant passed without a call. Her gifts were wrapped individually. She never wrapped my gift with her brother’s although mailing to the same address.
I will miss her very warm loving touch. I was fascinated with how health conscious she was with a very discriminating pallet - always conscious of what she ate.
Valrica always ended her call with “I love you”.
I am going to miss you my sister. Goodbye for now. See you in the morning.

Seeing Valrica at Juval’s wedding was a real treat. Never in all my life had I seen her so happy, so joyful. It is my last memory of her and I cannot think of anything she would have loved more in her sunset years than to see her son marry the love of his life. May God and the righteous ancestors welcome her into their rest, and may the memory of her strengthen and console the relatives she leaves behind.
Juana Hutchinson-Colas | Teaneck New Jersey
Valrica was an amazing individual and a precious sister. As the second to the last of 7 siblings, I had to wait for my chance to be with her. The memory of her as my maid-of-honor always causes me to smile. Val did not miss an opportunity to remind me of how much she loved and appreciated me, my husband and daughters. I will miss my several weekly calls, especially the ones on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons. I know time heals wounds but only God can mend this broken heart. The happy memories of our time together will help me on my way and the knowledge that she is no longer suffering, but resting for a while, gives me great comfort. I thank God for the times I had with my sister and her influence and love will live on with me, always.

I pray that she will rest in peace until that great resurrection morning. May God be with her family especially during this sad time.

I can do naught but sigh, the memories of Val, the warm, cool, hip supportive big Christian cousin..the person that made me feel I needed to participate in the Sabbath without pressure or laying the guilt trip. Val was the Cousin you had who inwardly would have loved to have had as "big sister" …Reflecting, migration as well as distance and coming of age caused us all to drift as we embarked on our different journeys, too busy sometimes just trying to weave our own lives in the fashion we have selected..where has it taken us far from the ones we love as we have been so busy being busy..today. I saw that Val is no longer on this plain..oh how my heart ached..memories and tears came uncontrollably....her warmth I will never forget...she was indeed my Doll baby big cousin..love you Val..forever in my ♥️.

Valrica we will miss your weekly call at 3 pm on Sundays. You were consistent despite what was going on. I will miss your personal gifts that were personally wrapped and that were filled with meticulous thought.
Your genuine love and expression of such will be missed. You fought a good and long fight.
Rest well.
Mary McFarlane | Lanham, MD
I always remember Valrica as a friendly outgoing girl. Always ready for a laugh. We pray that the family will be comforted by the promise of the resurrection.
Merlene Fletcher | Los Angeles, California
We first met as girls in high school and of course, the church in Spanish Town, JA. Fast forward to Loma Linda University California where we were roommates in my last year of college. Val was a friendly, outgoing person. She had a sunny personality and was an extremely positive person. A few of us became fast friends and remained so after graduation as Marie will attest to. I last saw Valrica when she visited LA on a trip back from Germany and she dropped by. I inquired of her from mutual friends often over the years. We never know where life will take us on this journey but pray God will never let go of our hand and I’m sure God held Val close to Him. The sadness of a life cut so short but the joy of the good memories remains.
I send condolences to all of Valrica’s remaining family and may God keep and bless you always. Tell those you care about that you love them often and don’t put it off for another day. Peace and love. 🌸

Wonderful memories of Valrica in Spanish Town and at West Indies College, now NCU. Always Beautifully dressed, poised, and full of life. Deepest condolences to Juval and his family, as well to all the Hutchinson siblings and their families. Praying for God's peace and comfort for all of you during this very sad time.
